Questions people usually ask

Thinking about visiting or joining Potomac Promoters? Here are the things guests and prospective members ask us most often. If your question isn’t here, come to a meeting and ask.

Common questions

What is Potomac Promoters?
We’re a referral group, part of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce’s LeadShare program. A roster of local business owners in and around Ashburn who meet twice a month to hand each other warm referrals and get to know each other’s businesses well enough to recommend them with confidence.
When and where do you meet?
The 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month, 8:15 to 9:30 AM, at the Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue station, 43765 Ashburn Volunteer Plaza in Ashburn. Coffee and a light breakfast are on the house.
Can I visit before I join?
Yes, and we hope you will. Guests are always welcome to sit in on a meeting with no commitment. It’s the best way to get a feel for the group and meet the members. Check the calendar for the next meeting and let us know you’re coming.
What actually happens at a meeting?
Each meeting is friendly but structured, and it wraps up before the workday gets going. Members give a quick update and a short pitch on their business, including who makes a great referral for them. Then one member takes the spotlight with a longer presentation, so everyone gets to know their business in depth. Guests are welcome to introduce themselves too.
What is a one-to-one?
A one-to-one is a casual meeting between two members outside of the regular group time. It’s where members really learn each other’s business, which is what turns a name into a referral worth passing.
Can two businesses in the same industry both join?
The group is built around a broad mix of industries so members complement each other rather than compete. If you’d like to know whether your category is currently open, reach out or come to a meeting and ask.
What’s expected of members?
Show up to meetings, give referrals as freely as you hope to receive them, meet one-to-one with other members, and take good care of anyone you’re introduced to. Members log their referrals and one-to-ones so the group can see what’s working.
Do I need to be a Chamber member to join?
Yes. LeadShare is a program of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, so you need to be a Chamber member to be eligible to join a LeadShare group like ours. If you’re not a member yet, we’re glad to point you in the right direction.
How do I join, and what does it cost?
Come visit a meeting first, then let us know you’re interested. Dues are $100 a year for the LeadShare program, paid through the Chamber, plus $25 a year for our group that covers things like coffee and meeting supplies. You’ll also need to be a Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce member, which is what makes you eligible for LeadShare.

Still have a question?

The easiest way to get it answered is to come sit in on a meeting and ask us in person. You can also send a note and we’ll get back to you.
